I would have despaired unless i had believed I would see the goodness of the lord in the land of the living. - psalm 27:13

Oh, Keep Knockin'

Oh, Keep Knockin'

Last year, my daughter learned a song in choir called Keep Knockin’. It’s based on Matthew 7:7 where we are told to continue to ask, seek and knock. She would sing this song at the top of her lungs all around the house. She would carry her Bible around to show her choir director, Mrs. Melody, where it says it in the Bible. What a beautiful child like response to the command from the Lord to ask, seek, and knock about what is on our hearts - Don’t stop ‘til something happens - don’t stop until he answers.

Even though I have the little girl in my arms I never thought would come, there are still deep wants in my soul, heavy longings, that remain unfulfilled. This year has been particularly difficult for me in that regard. So, when I heard Matthew West’s song, “Don’t Stop Praying” my daughter said, “Mommy…that’s YOUR Oh, Keep Knockin’ song”! I spent hours at the piano, playing this song, and crying out to the Lord for breakthrough for our situation. We’re 15 years into brutal brokenness with no end in sight. But, I’ve been challenged by the Spirit to renew my commitment to pray.

Prayer is the only thing I have left, and actually, it’s the most powerful. I’ve tried everything else.

I get so weary waiting for reconciliation and healing. My heart breaks for my daughter who is starting to ask questions about the brokenness.

I printed the poster below and it is hanging in my closet. Every morning, when my daughter and I are getting ready for the day, we are reminded to Keep Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door for the things that burden our hearts. Those items go on the poster with a post-it to remind us to pray until God answers.

I desperately want reconciliation in the land of the living and the time is running short. But, what is impossible with man is impossible with God. So, we keep knockin’.
